CELEBRATION OF OCIE’S LIFE service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL with Masonic Service conducted by Oblong Masonic Lodge #644.  Burial will follow in Oblong Cemetery with military rites conducted by Oblong American Legion Post #219.

Ocie V Smith, Jr. passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 6:10 a.m. at his residence in Oblong, IL.

Ocie was born in Oblong, IL on September 24, 1933.  He was the son of Ocie V. Smith Sr. and Dorothy D. (Welsh) Smith.  On October 8, 1953 he married the love of his life Janet Ann Eillott, who survives.

Ocie was a lifelong farmer, which included owning and milking dairy cows for over 20 years.  He later worked 20 years as a field technician for the Marathon Oil Company, retiring in 1994. He attended Oblong schools and was a member of the OHS Class of 1951.  He served his country in the United States Army from 1953 ~ 1955; he was  a member of the Central United Methodist Church; Oblong Masonic Lodge #644; Danville Shrine Consistory; Crawford County Shrine motor patrol for many years; Oblong Tractor and Engine Association; Robinson Elks Lodge; Oblong Community Unit 4 School Board serving as both a member and President; Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation Board; Crawford County Farm Bureau; Crawford County Farm Service Board; Dairy Superintendent for the Crawford County Fair; Crawford County Fair Board; Oblong American Legion Post #219, and served many years as an Oblong Township Republican Precinct Committeeman.

Ocie enjoyed many things throughout his life; his lifelong passions included farming on his family farm, gardening, taking golf cart rides with his wife Janet, antique tractors, and watching and supporting his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids grow up playing sports, showing livestock, and participating in many other activities.  Ocie’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Ocie is survived by his wife Janet Smith, Oblong, IL; mother Dorothy Smith, Oblong, IL; two sons and daughter-in-law Ocie III and Diana Smith and Mike Smith, all of Oblong, IL; a daughter and son-in-law Lori and Greg Dart, Oblong, IL; six grandchildren Nick and Jessica Dart, Oblong, IL, Ashley and Greg Glaub, Batesville, IN, Kylie and Dustin Veach, Oblong, IL, Garrett and Brandi Dart, Oblong, IL, Danielle Smith and fiance’ Connor McCoy, Oblong, IL and Elliot Smith and fiancée Katie Anderson of Indianapolis, IN; five great-grandchildren Mallorie and Wesley Dart, Oblong, IL, Addison and Hunter Glaub, Batesville, IN and Mason Veach, Oblong, IL; a brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Marilyn Smith,  New Kent, VA; two sisters and a brother-in-law Vivienne Ackman, Oblong, IL and Helen and John Larrabee, Oblong, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ocie in death were his father Ocie V. Smith, Sr.; mother-in-law Ruth Baker; father-in-law Herb Elliott; and two brothers-in-law Max Elliott and Carol Ackman.
